Adelaide is HOT

Wow, I can’t believe how hot it is here in Adelaide today.  We are having a heat wave and today the temperature will hit 46 degrees Celsius.

It is a good time to think of being by the seaside.

Seaside Quilting Retreats at Victor Harbour

How exciting, we are on countdown now for Katrina Hadjimichael’s March workshop in beautiful Victor Harbor. Just imagine sitting in the front room, ocean only fifty feet away with the cool surf rolling in. Yachts sailing by and yes, we are sewing! How much better does it get. Oh, of course, the yummy home cooked food plus there will be an on site shop. Lyn Buttfield of Quilters’ Quarter’s will be there with her mobile shop and she has been stocking up on the latest reproduction fabric. All of that plus you get a quilty goodie bag to the value of $25. There are still a few vacancies so if you are thinking about coming along, don’t  hang out for too long. Katrina doesn’t sell her patterns for her Jane Austin quilts so attending a class is the only way you are going to make her beautiful quilts. I have attached some close up photos of Rosings so you can see how beautiful this quilt is.

Happy Festive Season

I hope everyone has had a joyful Christmas and are looking forward to a New Year of exciting happenings in the quilting world. I always enjoy the Festive season to relax, catch up with friends and plan my quilting schedule for the following year. As promised in my last post I have included close up photos of my Sedona Star. My quilting of Sedona Star was inspired by Lisa Sipes version of the same quilt. Lisa is a beautiful person and an absolutely amazing quilter. She lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is one of my most favourite places in USA (apart from Houston in November).

My dear friend Christy Dillon from  My Creative Stitches designed and digitized the motif for this block. I love her feather designs and this design was like the jewel in the crown. Thanks Christy, mum and daughter. The feather designs in all the other sections have been hand guided.

Now for more exciting news, my Sedona Star is one of four quilts chosen by The Quilters’ Guild of SA Exhibition Committee to hang at AQC (Australian Quilt Convention) in Melbourne in April 2014. This is a very prestigious event and I feel very privileged to have my quilt selected. I will be there !

Stay tuned for news on more exciting events in 2014 including the Seaside retreats at Victor Harbor.

My First Blog!

Wow, my website is finally up and running with many thanks to Brenda Gael Smith for her hard work and patience.

I love it! Thanks so much Brenda. If you are interested in having a website designed get in touch with Brenda at www.serendipitypatchwork.com.au

Now onto my next great news. I have been working on my Sedona Star quilt for the past eighteen months and I finally finished it in time to exhibit it at The Festival of Quilts organised by The Quilters’ Guild of South Australia.  It won a second place in the Traditional Amateur category. Wow! I was so excited! Sedona Star is a quilt designed by Sarah Vedeler for The Quilt Show BOM programme in 2012. It was a pleasure to make as the instructions were very well written and easy to follow. The entire quilt is foundation pieced. I needle turned the appliqued sections which took a long time to do.

Here is a photo of my quilt. I will post some close ups of the quilting later.  (Click to enlarge.)
