It is my pleasure to welcome Gloria Loughman back to The Quilting Room to teach another of her wonderful workshops.
Gloria is a renown Australian quilt artist who lives by the sea in Victoria, Australia. She is a trained secondary teacher who had her initiation into the world of patchwork nearly 30 years.
Gloria’s large vivid landscape quilts depicting the Australian bush have been taught and exhibited worldwide. She has had the opportunity to travel to many unique and fascinating parts Australia and enjoys reproducing these images in fabric. Most of the textiles used have been hand dyed or painted and feature extensive machine embroidery. These quilts have won many major awards in Australia, Europe, Japan and the United States.
Gloria has been teaching patchwork classes for many years and enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with others. She likes to challenge her students to design their own quilts but is also happy to provide patterns for those less confident. Her classes have proved to be very popular with lots of students coming back for a second or third class. IGloria has taught extensively in Australia and in more than 20 countries overseas. Her commitment to teaching was acknowledged when she received the Rajah award in 2009, which is awarded for ‘an outstanding contribution to Australian quilt making.’
The Painted Landscape is a new technique designed and taught by Gloria Loughman.
In this workshop you will design and construct your own landscape quilt using a chosen image as your starting point. The key elements of design, including focal point, perspective and balance will be discussed and then you will design your own wall hanging working from your selected image. This is a class where everyone is challenged to produce their own design but is supported through each stage of the process. You will be working with fabric dyes and paints to create your design.
